Hey there!
It’s officially October, which means that our first Rough Draft Month is quickly approaching. If you’re participating, (and we hope you are!) you have from now until November 1st to decide what project you’ll be working on. If you’re a planner, you have that time to outline. If you’re a pantser, you have that time to make playlists and daydream. If you’re a plantser like myself, you’re probably switching between the two. Luckily, however you like to prepare, we’re here to help!
If you haven’t joined our Discord yet, now is the time to do so. Throughout October, we’re hoping to make it a hub for inspiration and plotting. We’ll even be hosting events to help you make a blueprint for your Rough Draft.
October 12th is planner day. For those of you that like a detailed blueprint, we’ll fill the day with outline sprints and story structure chat. Around 5PM CST, we’ll be in the voice chat to talk about our stories and work on outlines together.
October 19th is plantser day. For those that like a bit of planning and a bit of pantsing, we’ll be doing some outline sprints, but also sharing moodboards, playlists, and anything else to get inspiration flowing. Voice chat starts around 5PM CST.
October 26th is pantser day. In true pantser fashion, this event is last minute, right at the end of the month. We’ll be chatting about story ideas and getting inspired, but mostly just hanging out. Voice chat starts around 5PM CST.
October 31st, we’ll be counting down to November. Costumes and candy encouraged, but not required. Voice chat starts around 9PM CST and will go as long into November 1st as we can hang. We’ll also be hosting sprints after time zones start hitting midnight.
Obviously, all are welcome at all of these events, regardless of how you like to blueprint your projects. We look forward to seeing you there!
In the meantime, we’ve got some playlists for you to listen to while you blueprint. Rough Draft Ambient, K-pop, and Jazz are live. You can find them (and more to come) on our Spotify page.
Also, looking forward to November, we’ll be tracking our words using Trackbear. Since Rough Draft Month has a flexible goal structure, we’ve created separate leaderboards for our four challenge levels. Once you’ve chosen your challenge, you can input the challenge code into Trackbear’s leaderboard search bar and join with your project. We’ll be going more in-depth on the different goals and why we chose to structure our challenge this way later in the month, but you can go ahead and join a leaderboard if you’ve decided on a goal. Mountain is 60k, Forest is 50k, and Waterfall is 30k. The Moonlight flex goal can be any amount of words, but it can also be used to track goals that aren’t just word counts. This is perfect for tracking progress on varied creative endeavors by substituting words for other metrics like lines, scenes, panels, or sketches.
Trackbear codes:
🗻 Mountain (60,000 words): 74d0d9e9-95bd-4845-9d72-6f94f22ad3cd
🌳 Forest (50,000 words): 5469a86e-198c-495f-9079-79e9200194ba
🌊 Waterfall (30,000 words): 190f5737-4801-42e0-a265-f3abafaa764b
🌙 Moonlight (Flex Goal) : 6e2d3176-6bf4-4665-bad6-f77b8fdc72d1
We’re excited for the months to come! We hope you are, too.
Talk later!
